The Port St. Lucie Moose Lodge No. 513 was formally instituted
on Sunday, Novembe 28, 1983 at the Port St. Lucie Community Center.
A Class of eighty charter members were enrolled. It was to be one of
the temporary homes for the Lodge members for almost 4 years. After
losing the lease at the Community Center, the meetings were held at
the PSL Bowling Lanes, Northport Marina and members homes. Finally
ground breaking ceremonies for the new lodge on 191 NW Marion Avenue
took place in August 1986. It was the culmination of a two year effort
on the part of the members. The new home of Moose Lodge No. 513
was officially dedicated on February 21, 1987.
In 1982 there were 80 moose members, but within 4 years, membership had
grown to 270. With the enrollment/induction ceremonies in 1987, the
membership increased to 325. Lodge membership now stands at 764.
Throughout the past 25 years, the membership has actively supported local
organizations such as the Victory Children's Home, the "Just Say No To
Drugs" program, the Authritis Foundaton, The Luekemia Fund, the Sheriff's
youth Ranch, the Donald P. Ross Camp, The Hospice and has been involved
in fundraisers for the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and several handicap children.
